- 4 inch (10.16 cm) Toilet Paper Roll Tube
- Scissors
- Paper
- Small Index Card
- Crayons
- Markers or Colored Pencils
- Pony Bead
- Glue Stick
- Low Temperature Glue Gun
We used a bathroom tissue tube. Cut the top of the cardboard tube into a point to support the roof. To do this, you place a rubber band 1 ½ inches from the top. Draw a line all the way around along the band. Flattened the top 1 ½ inches of the tube and measure to find the center on both the back and the front. Cut the point from the center mark to the drawn line at the outer edge of the flatten section on the front. (See picture) Repeat this for the back. (You will want to have this step already done for younger children.)
Measure a square of paper 4 inches (10.16 cm) by 7 inches (17.78 cm). This allows for overlap. Draw a circle in the center of this and color it black to look like an opening. Draw flowers, butterflies, hearts, etc. on the remaining part of the paper. Color the index card for the roof. Use the glue stick to glue the paper on the cardboard tube so the circle is in line with one of the top points. Trim the excess paper away between the cardboard points. Fold the index card in half so the short ends meet. Color it as desired. Use a low temperature glue gun to attach the index card roof. (Caution: Younger children should not use any glue gun.) Glue on something such as a pony bead for a perch.
Use this with our His Eye is on the Sparrow lesson.
